Obituary

COKES SR., Roger J., age 84 of Dayton, Ohio was born August 5, 1935 in Holly Grove, Arkansas to the late McKinley Cokes, Sr. and Hattie Cokes. He attended Holly Grove Vocational School. He was employed by B.G. Danis Construction for more than 30 years. Roger accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age. He was a loving and devoted family man who enjoyed hunting, gardening and watching westerns on television. On Saturday, April 4, 2020 following a lengthy illness, Roger J. Cokes, Sr. transitioned from this life to be in the presence of the Lord. He was also preceded in death by; his former wife, Martha Cokes Hyde; son, Roger Cokes, Jr., (3) sisters, Lucille Tyler, Dorothy Frison and Bernadine Young; (4) brothers, Elmer, Leverne, Jewell and McKinley Jr. Cokes. Roger leaves to cherish fond memories and celebrate his life; (5) sons, Darryl (Denise) of New York, Garlund, Carl, Paul (Sabrina) and Shawn (Janeen) Cokes all of Dayton; (5) daughters, Sherry, Jade and Anissa Cokes of Dayton, Gloria Cokes of Kansas City and Roshunda Cartwright of Arkansas; (3) sisters, Lola Vinson, Maxine Wilder and Dorene (Floyd) Jordan; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends. Due to the Covid-19 virus, a private funeral service will be held Saturday, April 11, 2020 at Thomas Funeral Home, 4520 Salem Ave., with Rev. Robert Jackson, Officiating.
