Obituary for Russell Eugene FRANKLIN
God saw you getting tired, and a cure was not to be, so he put his arms around you and whispered “Come to me” on Thursday, March 10, 2022, at Bethany Lutheran Village Centerville, Ohio. Russell Franklin was born July 26, 1929, in Mayslick, Kentucky, the son of the late Arthur and Margaret (Tabor) Franklin. Russell Franklin followed his late brother William Franklin from Mayslick, KY to take a job at Rike’s department store. He worked in shipping and receiving for over 40 yrs. along with a second job to provide for his blended family.
He was affectionately known as the grill master when he had time and enjoyed it immensely. Russell’s life goal was to be a husband, father, protector, and provider for his family. He never asked for anything, never complained even in the worst of circumstances, and had a stellar work ethic. He only missed work for funerals. He served his country in the Korean War as an infantry soldier.
Russell was preceded in death by his wife of 58 yrs. Martha Franklin, son Melvin Hardin, daughter Angela Odister, brothers William, Raymond, Herbert, John, Richard, Robert and Clarence; sisters Mary, Lena Mae and Lydia. He leaves to cherish his memory sister, Katherine (Walter) Fox, brother Herman (LaRue) Franklin, children Karen (Paul) Sosebee, Mary Early, Arthur Franklin. He is also survived by grandchildren Craig Hardin, Kandice Odister, Rhyan (Mario) Stuckey, DaJuan Franklin, Rachel (Mike) Wilson, Raven Early, India Hardin, Gabriel Hardin; great-grandchildren Sidney, Evan, Nasim, Imiyan, Quran, Iyleah, Jaylion, Raegan and Xavier. Special family members Darryl and Damon Chandler, JoAnn Hereford, Ronald Odister, Ozell Early, and a host of nephews and nieces.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, March 21, 2022, at Thomas Funeral Home, 4520 Salem Ave., Dayton, Ohio 45416. Walk through visitation will be held one hour prior to service.
