Obituary for Richard R. BROWN Sr.

Richard Robert BROWN, SR.., age 91 of Dayton, Ohio was born February 22, 1928 to the late Anna Richardson and Marcellus Brown, Sr. He attended Dunbar High School and served in the United States Navy and Coast Guard receiving an honorable discharge after 4 years of service. Richard worked at Wright Patterson Air Force Base as an Inspector for more than 20 years. He was a musician more than 70 years and played with Buddy Webb and Roy Meriwether just to name a few before organizing his own band, “The Dick Brown Sounds”. Richard accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was a loving and devoted father and grandfather. He was outgoing, social, very intelligent and kept abreast of world events and was very knowledgeable about history. Richard was a collector of trains. He was the go to man who could fix anything including cars. He enjoyed watching basketball, baseball, tennis, golf and playing games of chance. During his younger years he enjoyed playing in the baseball league. On Friday December 20, 2019 Richard Robert Brown, Sr. transitioned from this life to be in the presence of the Lord. He was also preceded in death by; his wife of 20 years, Nancy S. Yates Brown; (1) daughter, Vanessa Yates; (1) son, Richard Robert Brown, Jr.; (1) sister, Anna Woods and (1) brother, Marcellus Brown. Richard leaves to cherish fond memories and celebrate his life; a loving and devoted daughter, Barbara Ann Brown; (3) grandchildren, Efrem (Ayanna) Brown, Donell Carroll and Brittany Brown; (10) great grandchildren, Efrem Jr., Eric, Eran, Evan and Dorion Brown, Donell Jr., Lanelle, Tyren, Tramaine and Caiden; many great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends to include his long-time friend, Timothy (Madeline) Green. Funeral services 11:00 a.m. FRIDAY, January 10, 2020 at THOMAS FUNERAL HOME, 4520 Salem Ave., Rev. Robert Jackson, Officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to services.
