Obituary for Margie R. NORTON (Nelms)

Mother Margie Rea Norton transitioned peacefully to her heavenly home on December 21, 2020 surrounded by her loving children. Margie Rea [Nelms] Norton was born in Homer, Louisiana on a Sunday June 5,1932 to the late Frank and Irene Nelms. She was a lifelong active member of Mt. Zion Transformation Ministries and would have finished her education with the Roosevelt Class of 1950 in Dayton, Ohio.

At a very early age she was a compassionate and giving person, who lovingly embraced caring for children. She accepted the Lord at a very young age, and used her God given abilities teaching Sunday School and YPWW classes for many years. She had served in the finance department, and supported many other ministries in the church with enthusiasm and excellence; she also participated and served on committees within the community. And finally, Mother Norton served faithfully as the current Church Mother for Mt. Zion Transformation Ministries.

Mother Norton knew and embraced the Lord as being the source of her strength. She loved family and she was eager to celebrate her children and grandchildren birthdays. She made food dishes from scratch such as the baker’s hat rolls and cornbread dressing. She certainly was a keeper for organizing her house. She was adored and respected by all who knew or were acquainted with her.

Mother Margie Rea Norton was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband Deacon Clarence Norton Sr., loving sisters Mary Nelms, Lurean Watters Houston, Gussie Glenn, Inell Wheeler, Mattie B. Amos, and a loving twin sister Margie L. Boyce. She leaves to cherish her memories her devoted and loving children: Daughter Author Marcella Williams Ashe [James], Bishop Clarence Norton Jr. [Frances], Superintendent Carl B. Norton [Annie], Timothy Norton, and Vickie L. Shaw. She is also survived by a loving sister Cumerdis F. Looney, a host of grandchildren, great and great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of cousins and friends.

Homegoing Services will be held at 12 P.M. noon on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at Mt. Zion Transformation Ministries, 548 Anna Street, Dayton ,Ohio 45402.
