Obituary

Margaret Louise Brown, was born on July 27, 1925 in Social Circle Newton County, Georgia to the late Willie Mitchell and Hattie Digsby-Sidwell. She was educated in her home town. Margaret was baptized at a young age at James Paschal Church in Georgia. In 1945, she moved to Dayton, Ohio where she married Joseph S. Brown, Sr. and started a family. Margaret worked 30 plus years as a Laundry Attendant at Shaw Cleaners and 10 years at Sears in environmental services.

Margaret joined Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in 1961 where she sang in the choir. She was a faithful member for 55 years. She later joined New Birth Missionary Baptist Church where she was a member for 10 years. Margaret loved God and attending church services and activities. She also loved family and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Margaret gained great wisdom from her experiences along her 94-year journey. She was knowledgeable about a myriad of things and became a great life teacher. She loved being a home-maker and socializing with her neighbors and the community. In turn, she was loved by her neighbors and was presented a plaque at an annual neighborhood event. Margaret enjoyed the holidays, cooking, baking sweet potato pies, preaching, telling jokes and putting her green thumb to use with gardening.

Margaret Louise Brown transitioned from this earthly life into the arms and the presence of God on Thursday, July 2, 2020. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph S. Brown, Sr.; daughters, Phyllis J. Brown and Michelle L. Brown; and seven siblings. Margaret leaves to cherish fond memories and celebrate her life; two loving and devoted children, Patricia A. Gibson and Dean A. Brown; 3 grandchildren, Deonna M. Chambers, Dean A. Brown, Jr., and Kemit A. Brown-Swain; 3 great grandchildren, Chaim I. Chambers, Imari D. Chambers and Sean K. Chambers Jr.; sister, Kathryn E. Bailey of Covington, GA; special nieces, Carolyn Sidwell and Sharon Thomas; daughter-in-law, Sarah Gist; goddaughters and godson, Gracie I. Lacy, April Lacy-Young and Dale Lacy; special friends, Mildred Oglesby, Joe and Betty Norwood, Mary Ann Edwards and family; Anita Beverly and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her Derby Road Neighbors.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 P.M. Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at Thomas Funeral Home, 4520 Salem Ave, Trotwood, OH with Pastor Frederick A. Hayes, officiating. Interment: West Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. On-line condolences may also be sent to the family at www.thomasfunerals.com

Sis. Brown’s smile was the best greeting! Before she ever opened her mouth to say hello, you saw her smile. She was a great friend to many of my senior family members. Pat, you are in my prayers; sending my sincere condolences 💕

My deepest sympathy goes out to the family. Mrs. Brown was a remarkable, stylish, strong, spry and joyful woman! She was still praising God at 94+ yrs. What a beautiful & joyful soul. May God comfort the family, guide you through this sad time, and give you PEACE! Love, Anita B.
