Obituary for Juanita EDWARDS

Juanita Edwards was born in Oxford, North Carolina, on February 12, 1943 unto John and Annie (Henderson) Hargrove. She was one of nine sisters and five brothers. Juanita accepted Christ early in life and attended Antioch Baptist Church in Oxford, NC. She was a graduate Of Mary Potter High School and attended Business School. She moved to Dayton, OH in 1965, met and married Carson Edwards June 19, 1970, that union produced three children, one son, Willie Tart (Lolita) of Copperas Cove, TX and two daughters Linda Chinn and Carla Phillips of Dayton, OH.

Juanita worked as a school bus driver with St. John’s Transportation for five years, then transferred to Dayton Board of Education where she retired in 2006. At that time, she was able to devote more time to her family, church and hobbies. Family was her heartbeat, and she was a loving supportive force. She loved her husband, siblings, grandchildren, nieces and nephews dearly and never missed an opportunity to share their accomplishments. Some of the lessons she taught were to love God, be honest, humble and treat people right.

Juanita was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Marcus Clark for many years and eventually moved her membership to Calvary Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Tommy Byrd and now being led by Reverend Jefferey Brown Jr. She served faithfully for years and worshipped God. Juanita enjoyed being in the choir and loved to sing for the lord. She was a willing worker, and whatever she did, she did it with diligence and grace. Her favorite song was” Give me my flowers.”

Juanita was a gracious hostess for family gatherings, enjoyed fishing, cooking, and gardening. She never met a stranger and welcomed everyone with open arms. Over the years, she was the best friend, sister, aunt, mother and grandmother.

Juanita went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 6, 2022, at the Ohio Hospice of Dayton. She leaves to cherish her memory, a devoted husband, three children, six grandchildren: Lashawn Watson, Adrian and Ashley Tart of Copperas Cove TX, Caan Payne, Zion and Ian Phillips of Dayton OH. One great grandchild, Grace Payne. She was preceded in death by her parents, Annie and John Hargrove, brothers, Earnest, Enouch, John Herbert and Andrew Hargrove and sisters, Corinthia Mitchell, Virginia Williams, Bernice Cooper and Marilyn Peace. Remaining siblings: Marie Hawley, Elaine Jones, Francine Rawlings, Calvin Hargrove (Doris), and Isabel Walker

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, March 18, 2022, at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 2067 N Gettysburg Ave., Dayton, Ohio 45406. Walk through visitation will be held one hour prior to service. Interment: Jefferson View Cemetery.
