Obituary

DAVIS, Joan Marie, affectionately called “Joanie” went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 29, 2020. Joanie was born in Charleston, WV to the late Nancy Ferrell on October 24, 1953. She moved to Dayton, Ohio at an early age with her family, where she attended public schools and graduated as a licensed beautician. She served many customers for over thirty years. Joanie loved working with customers and hair styles, working with all kinds of hair and people from various socio-economic backgrounds. Joanie was a strong woman, believed in God, dearly loved her family and her friends. Holidays and special occasions were a time Joanie loved to celebrate with her family. Joanie was loved and respected as the matriarch. Joanie had a special relationship with her daughter and grandchildren. While she raised several of her siblings, she held a special place in her heart for Savannah, her granddaughter, who lived with her, until the time of her transition. Joanie dearly loved her daughter, her sisters and brothers and all of their families. She was an outstanding mother, wife, sister, aunt and loved entertaining her family all of the time. She would often discuss the next celebration and would anxiously plan the next time they would get together. It was her love for her family that she so graciously offered to all and we recognized her genuine love and compassionate spirit which she shared wholeheartedly with all of us! Joanie had a way of making us all feel special! Joanie was the bond that held her family together. She was an outstanding chef and would make a point of making each one of us our “special dish”. Joanie was known for enjoying the gathering of family and friends, cooking, laughing and listening to all! She especially enjoyed listening to the “Blues”. Joanie was preceded in death by a special friend Olice Johnson, Brothers: Norman Hart, Eric Ferrell and Tommy Fielder; Sister, Cynthia Bridges.Joan leaves to cherish her precious memories and to celebrate her life; daughter, Lolita (Darryl) Fritz of Toledo; grandchildren, Jonita Ferrell, Shamika (Antonio) Winfree of Toledo, OH; Sisters: Yonnie Fields and Brenda Payne (TX); Brothers: Hayward (Robin) Ferrell, Dana (Debbie) Hart(WV), Marvin Hart (Leslie) (MA); Special Nephews: James, Zachary, Jason, Jovan, Justin, Michael, Derrion, Danny and Earl; Special nieces: Terri Berkley (WV) and Erica Sutton (GA); Great Grand Daughters, Savannah, Dynasty, Dezaree, Camilla, Trinity Ferrell; a special sister/friend Brenda Coleman and a host of great grandchildren, cousins, and friends. .
