Obituary for Frank B. HOBSON

HOBSON, Frank B. Hobson (“The Muffler Man” or “Hawk”), age 75, was born in Pelahatchie, Mississippi to the late Eugene and Almeater Hobson on May 9, 1945, and after a short stay at Hospice of Dayton he departed this life on November 10, 2020. In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by Brothers Eddie L. and John Hobson, Sisters Alpha Mae (Charles-deceased) McGriff, & Annie Ruth (Jessie-deceased) Grant, and Grandson, Jerlontay Hobson.

Frank went to Mount Airy Elementary School in Pelahatchie, Ms. Following his elder brother and sister, he moved from Mississippi to Dayton, Ohio. Frank was a Member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and enjoyed singing in the male chorus and teaching Sunday School. Frank loved country music, old westerns, cars, and trucks. He also loved and worked on automobiles all of his life. He worked at Big Muffler for over 15 years, then took the risk of becoming self-employed. For 28 years Frank was the owner/operator of Hobson’s Muffler Shop, one of the first African American Muffler Businesses in Dayton, and was known as the “Muffler Man”. Frank provided excellent service to his customers, but he could also be faulted with undercharging everyone for services rendered.

Frank loved his family and has a reputation for being a very good friend. He was a quiet soft-spoken man. He was humorous, loved a good joke, and came up with wonderful zingers. He enjoyed simple pleasures and was an avid fisherman. If he was not working on a vehicle, he could be found either in or out of town on a bank or fishing from a boat.

Frank leaves to mourn his best friend, Tamyra Hobson. Frank has five children - four daughters, Vonda (Dennis Sr.) Walker of Jackson, MS., Sandra Hobson Rucker, Deborah Donnell of Byram, MS., Syreeta Onyeaghala, and one son, Charles I. S. Muwallif. Two brothers, Albert (Linda) Hobson and Vincent (Pat) Hobson all of Dayton, Ohio. Three sisters, Ruby Jean Watson, and Minnie Pearl (H. C.-deceased) Bennett, all of Pelahatchie, Mississippi, Mary Alice (Earnest-deceased) King, of Indianapolis, Indiana. Grandchildren: Shantrice Williams, David Strickland Jr, and Dennis (Jr.), Kahlil & Justin Walker, Frank J. (Carlene) Hobson, Amanda Smith, Tamiya C., Sophia, C, Carleigh R, Muwallif, Amaryah Day, and Alisha Morris. Great-grands: Syree Watkins, Jaidyn William, London Harris, Isiah, and Wynter Summerall, Bobby Bass Hobson, and Ke’Henryon, Henryonte, & La’Henrya Perry-Hobson. Steve Allen is one of Frank’s close longtime friend and fishing buddy. There is also a host of, nieces, nephews, other friends, and family.

Frank Hobson was well-loved and he will be dearly and greatly missed.
