Obituary for Ethel Mae BONNER

Ethel Bonner (Carpenter), 77, of Dayton, OH, and Atlanta GA, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2020. She was a strong, gregarious, creative, intuitive and tenacious woman whose sense of humor was quick-witted and contagious. A spiritual woman, Ethel raised the bar to high standards with those who knew her. She was candid in sharing her wisdom and life perspectives. An entrepreneurial spirit, Ethel enjoyed a career in business management, fashion and modeling. She shared a special bond with the love of her life, grandson Nicholas. Ethel was an overachiever and was the first black majorette at Stivers High School. She continued her education at Sinclair College and Wright State University. Ethel dedicated her life to God, family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Nebraska and Mary Carpenter; brothers Charles Carpenter, Larry Carpenter, George Cole (Chris); and niece Demeika Bryant (Chaharazade). Ethel is survived by her devoted daughter Wendi Huff (Ray), of Charleston, SC; beloved grandson Nicholas Nance of Columbia SC; loving siblings, Willie Carpenter (Jackie) of New York, NY, Emma Walker (Lawrence) of Dayton, OH, Eva Sumlin (Charles) of Cleveland, OH; a host of cherished nieces and nephews; godchildren; sister-friends, Jaruth Jefferson and Ernestine Thorton; and her blended family Muriel Thomas of Rock Hill SC, Vishantese Huff of Charlotte, NC, Raven Slade (Michael), Dylan, Brooklyn of Atlanta, GA. Due to the pandemic, Ethel’s celebration of life will be presented as a video tribute. At a future date, a link to the video celebration will be provided by Ethel’s family.
